The story of the week of celebration

My husband took this photo of my cousin on her confirmation day. She looked so pretty!

That day actually started a week of celebration: a confirmation day, a funeral and a wedding all in the same week (but clearly the key person wasn't the same!). That was a lot of celebrations between Sunday and Friday. I actually joked that it was too much as I was admitted to hospital right after that week for gallbladder surgery (not related of course, but I find it funny) :)

I decided to play along with Scrap365 sketch challenge. Here's the sketch that I used.

It feels like autumn already here! I love summer, but this summer was just crazy buzy so somehow I'm happy to be back at normal routines. And hopefully that means more time to scrapbook :) The new CSI case file is open and here is my layout for it. Hopefully you'll join us!

Syksyn tuntua on jo ilmassa! Vaikka kesä onkin lempivuodenaikani, jotenkin odotan syksyä ja paluuta "normaaleihin" rutiineihin, sillä kesä on ollut todella kiireinen. Ja toivottavasti nyt minulla olisi myös enemmän aikaa skräpätä :) Uusin CSI-haaste on nyt auki ja tässä minun leiskani siihen. Toivottavasti osallistut myös!

The blue in the color scheme reminded me of this picture we took on our latest vacation. We drove from Washington DC to Philadelphia and on our way we saw this super cute town. It reminded me so much of Stars Hollow which is the hometown in the tv show "Gilmore Girls" (and that's one of my favorite TV shows ever!). Hardware store, diner, church: everything was just like in the TV show!

Haasteen sininen väri toi minulle mieleen tämän kuvan, jonka otimme viimesimmällä lomamatkallamme. Ajoimme Washington DC:stä Philadelphiaan ja matkalla näimme tämän aivan ihanan pikkukaupungin. Se muistutti minua niin Stars Hollow'sta, joka on TV-sarja Gilmore Girlsin kotikaupunki (ja tuo TV-sarja on yksi kaikkien aikojen suosikeistani)! Sekatavarakauppa, diner, kirkko - kaikki oli aivan kuin TV:ssä!

I wanted to write a bit more journaling than normally, so I chose the testimony prompt "Make a little book". The book works also as my paper layers under the picture. This layout is made with the supplies from Gossamer Blue's August Kit. Yep, it's official: I have joined a kit club and based on this kit I love it!

Halusin kirjoittaa hieman enemmän tarinointia, joten valitsin "Testimony"-osiosta vaihtoehdon "tee pieni kirja". Kokosin kirjan ja laitoin sen kuvan alle, jolloin se toimii myös paperikerroksina. Tämä leiska on tehty lähes kokonaan Gossamer Bluen elokuun kitillä. Ja kyllä, se on virallista: olen liittynyt kit clubiin ja tämän kitin perusteella se on mahtavaa!

Delight - CSI & Scrap365

The new collaboration file with CSI and Scrap365 is up and running! I was fortunate to have my layout published in the magazine too. You have time until end of June to participate!

Uusin CSI:n ja Scrap365-lehden yhteistyöhaaste on julkaistu! Olin onnekas ja minun sivuni julkaistiin myös viimeisimmässä lehdessä. Osallistumisaikaa on kesäkuun loppuun!

I used a gold framed photo overlay under the picture to draw attention to the photo. Heidi Swapp's "delight" text was the perfect title and fitted so well above the picture  leaving us visible showing between the letters.

Laitoin kuvan alle kultareunaisen, normaalisti kuvien päälle tarkoitetun, kehyksen keskittämään huomion kuvaan. Heidi Swappin Delight-teksti oli täydellinen otsikko ja se sopi hienosti kuvan päälle.

Mukavaa lauantaita! CSI:n tämänkertainen väripaletti toi heti mieleeni tropiikin ja pääsinkin skräppäämään kuvat, jotka ovat lojuneet jo pitkään pöydälläni. Taustapaperin sävyt sopivat täydellisesti väreihin, mutta se oli jotenkin liian kirjava minulle sellaisenaan. Niinpä kopioin vanhan sivuni sommittelun ja lisäsin valkoista kartonkia sivuun.

Happy Saturday! It's time for the new CSI challenge. This time the colors reminded me of a tropical scene and I decided to scrap two of our vacation photos. The background paper that I found was perfect for the palette but I felt that it was a bit too busy for my taste. So I decided to copy one of my old designs and added a white cardstock in an angle. 

Halusin käyttää sivuun kahta erikokoista kuvaa. Tämä asetti koristelulle hieman haastetta. Lisäilin vähän kaikkea joka puolelle ja en nyt ole ihan varma tykkäänkö tästä, mutta tulipahan kokeiltua!

I wanted to use two photos in this layout. The embellishing was a bit difficult this time for me and I just added bits and pieces here and there. I'm not sure what to think of the outcome as clean and simple is more my style...

Mukavaa lauantaita! Tämän viikon CSI-haasteessa olevat pinkin ja keltaisen sävyt sopivat täydellisesti kesän odotukseen. Minun sivuni tallentaa tämän kevään ensimmäisen leskenlehden. Se jos joku on kevään merkki!

Happy Saturday! I just loved the pinks and yellows in this weeks CSI case file: such a happy color palette. My layout captures one of the best signs of spring that I can think of. In Finland we have these small yellow flowers, I think they are called coltsfoot in English. Those are the first flowers that we can see in the spring and means that spring is finally here after a long winter.

Halusin kerätä kaikki sivun elementit yhteen ja nostaa samalla tuon tarinoinnin pääosaan. Tuo Lemon Owlin kortti olikin loistava sillä se sisälsi valmiina otsikon ja luontevan paikan tarinalle. Muuten halusin pitää sivun yksinkertaisena.

This time I gathered all the elements to one place. I wanted to highlight the story and that journaling card from Lemon Owl was perfect as it had great title already on place. Otherwise I kept the layout pretty simple and bright.

Talk to the hand!

Kuten ehkä olet huomannut, olen viime aikoina tykästynyt käyttämään valkoista taustaa skräppisivuissani. Se oli suunnitelmani myös tähän sivuun, mutta jostain syystä tykästyin tuohon turkoosin ja tummansinisen väriyhdistelmään, joka sitten vei sivun aivan eri suuntaan. En olisi jotenkin ollenkaan uskonut, että nuo värit toimisivat yhdessä, mutta ainakin minusta ne toimii! Tykkään näistä CSI-haasteista juuri siksi, että ne saavat minut kokeilemaan uusia asioita.

Probably you have noticed that I have used white cardstock on my layouts a lot lately.  That was my plan for this layout too, but I tried different paper combinations and for some reason I really liked the color combination of teal and navy. For me it's a quite uncommon color combo and I never thought it would work but I really like it! I just love these CSI Case files as they encourage me to try something new everytime.

This layout tells a story about a typical young lady that doesn't want to be photographed. Gladly nowadays I can snap pictures of her too :)

Signs of spring

Tässä CSI-haasteessa ollaan minusta jotenkin niin keväisissä tunnelmissa. Olimme käymässä huhtikuussa mökillä ja otin sieltä muutamia keväisiä tunnelmakuvia, jotka sopivat mielestäni hyvin tähän haasteeseen. Tällä kertaa mukana oli myös luonnos, joka alkuun vaikutti haasteelliselta, mutta kun sitä lähti toteuttamaan omalla tavallaan, lopputuloksesta tuli näköiseni.

I felt that this CSI case file had a real spring feel in it! In April we were visiting my family's summer house and I took some photos showing the early signs of spring. As this is the second case file of the month there was also a sketch. First the sketch was quite challenging but after including my own twist on it, it worked very well!

Tuo luonnoksen banneri oli haasteellisin minulle. Lähdinkin muuttamaan sitä hieman ja tein kuvista omanlaisen bannerin ommellen ne kiinni toisiinsa ja pohjaan. Ensin mietin, että uskaltaakohan kuviin ommella, mutta lopputuloksesta tuli mieleinen.

The banner, that was the main element on the sketch, was the challenge for me. I changed it a bit and made my own banner from the pictures by sewing them. First I wasn't sure if I dare to sew into pictures but I really like the outcome!

Mukavaa sunnutai-iltaa! Tämän viikonlopun aikana eilisen kansainvälisen skräppäyspäivän innoittamana olen tehnyt muutaman sivun, joiden tekemisestä olen todella nauttinut. Nämä on ollut sellaisia mukavia "hyvän mielen sivuja".  Scrap Around The World -haasteessa on nyt meneillään juhlahaaste, johon tällä sivulla osallistun.

This weekend I have just enjoyed scrapbooking. Inspired by the (inter)national scrapbook day I have made two layout that I have just loved making. These have been sort of feel good layouts for me. This is one of the layouts and with this I participate to the Scrap Around The World's May's challenge. 

Haasteen inspiraatiokuvassa oli juhlan tuntua. Niinpä lähdin miettimään viimeisintä juhlahetkeä, joka minulla on ollut. Vaihdoin työtehtäviä huhtikuussa ja tuossa kuvassa on onnittelukukat siitä. Haasteen kuvan innoittamana lisäsin sivuun vielä tuon kakkupaperin ja hieman kultaa tagin muodossa. Tämä sivu on kyllä niin minun näköinen!

SATW mood board was really festive. I started to think what has been the last celebration that I have had. My role at work changed on April and my new team members wished me welcomed with the flowers that are in the picture. I was also inspired by the moodboards doilies (that were on the presents) and gold. This layout is just so my style!

My first ever start to finish scrapbooking video

Jännittävää lauantaita! Tänään pääsen näyttämään teille ensimmäisen skräppivideoni! Pitkän harkinnan jälkeen ostin uuden järjestelmäkameran ja tällä pystyy kuvaamaan myös videoita. What an exciting day! Today I can show my first ever scrapbooking video to you! I finally bought a new DSLR camera that I've been wanting so long. With this new camera I'm able to shoot videos too. You'll find the video below the picture. This is my first "start to finish" video, so I hope you like it :) I made this layout for CSI and what would be a better topic than my new camera.

Tässä muutaman viime viikon aikana olen saanut useamman haasteen kertoa itsestäni enemmän blogissani. Kolmesta haasteesta on kertynytkin 32 kysymystä vastattavaksi (ja se ei edes sisällä haasteisiin sisältyneitä omavalintaisia faktoja). 1. Kuinka aloitit askartelun/skräppäyksen? 
• Minä löysin paperiaskartelun ja erityisesti skräppäyksen vasta vuonna 2012. Eksyin silloin joulukorttiaskartelujen jälkimainingeissa selailemaan askartelublogeja, joiden kautta löysin skräppäämisen. Täysikokoisten skräppisivujen tekeminen tuntui vaikealta ja teinkin aluksi vain kortteja. Jossain vaiheessa kuitenkin jatkoin sivujen tekemistä ja se vetäisi minut mukaansa täysin. 
2. Mikä on sinun suosikki askartelutavaroiden valmistaja? 
• Niitä on niin monta! Tykkään yhdistellä eri kokoelmia ja eri valmistajien tuotteita. Juuri nyt tykkään erityisesti Dear Lizzyn ja Maggie Holmesin kokoelmista, joten ehkäpä American Crafts ja Crate Paper. 
3. Mitä haluaisit oppia? 
• Mitä askarteluun tulee, haluaisin opetella käyttämään enemmän leimoja. Osaan toki leimailun perusasiat, mutta olen aika huono käyttämään leimoja sivuissani. 
4. Missä näet itsesi 10 vuoden päästä? 
• Olen viime aikoina yrittänyt opetella elämään tässä hetkessä, jotta elämä ei olisi ”sitten kun” –elämää. Joten en aio arvata tässä missä olen 10 vuoden päästä, vaan katson mihin elämä vie.
5. Mikä on sinun suosikki askartelutuote? 
• Die-cut/ephemera-pakkaukset ja enamel dotsit. 
6. Mikä on unelmasi? 
• Elää onnellisena ja nauttia elämästä nyt sellaisena kun se on. 
7. Jos sinulla olisi 10 miljoonaa, kenelle sen antaisit? 
• Uudelle Lastensairaalalle. 
8. Mikä tekee sinut iloiseksi? 
• Juuri nyt minut saa iloiseksi kevät, aurinko, tuleva lomamatka, uusi työ ja viimeisenä (mutta ei vähäisimpänä) oma rakas aviomieheni.

• uusista töistä, jotka tein kohta julkaistavaan Paperilla-lehteen.

• Sanoisin, että lukijani. Kaikki ihanat kommentit, joita saan blogini kautta ovat niin kannustavia ja ihania.
17. Mikä on suosikki TV-saippuasarja? 
• En oikeastaan katso mitään saippuasarjoja. Tykkään komediasarjoista kuten Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory (en suostu kutsumaan sitä nimellä Rillit Huurussa), How I met your mother (paitsi ei viimeinen tuotantokausi), 30 Rock ja tietenkin ikuinen suosikki Frendit. 
18. Jos sinulla olisi rajaton budjetti, minne matkustaisit? 
• Helppo kysymys, uudelleen Havaijille. 
19. Mikä oli suosikkiasiasi lapsena? 
• Aloitin viulun soiton kun olin 3-vuotias ja soitin 18 vuotta, joten siitä varmastikin tykkäsin :)
20. Miksi skräppäät? 
• Siihen on useampi syy. Ensiksi, se on kauan etsitty harrastus minulle ja tykkään tehdä asioita käsilläni. Skräppäys on hyvä tapa nollata ja tehdä jotain aivan muuta. Toiseksi, se on minulle tapa tallentaa muistoja. Minusta on ihanaa, kun skräpätessä voi yhdistää muistot ja tarinat kuvan kanssa paperille. Skräppäys on myös opettanut minua huomioimaan kaikkia arjen yksityiskohtia.

During the last couple of weeks I’ve been challenged to tell a bit more about myself on my blog. From these challenges I have got 32 questions to answer (and this doesn’t even include those 22 facts the challenges asked me to tell about myself). I decided to accept the challenge but in my own way: I’m answering to 20 randomly selected questions that were asked from me. 1. How did you start crafting/scrapbooking?
• Before Christmas 2012 my friend invited me to make some Christmas cards with her and I liked it so much that I wanted to make it a hobby. At first making LO's felt intimidating: how on earth can I use all that space on a 12x12, so I only did some cards. At some point during the winter I just tried and tried making layouts, fell in love with it and haven't looked back since.
2. Your favorite manufacturer? 
• I have so many! I love mixing and matching collections and manufacturers. Right now I really like all the Dear Lizzy and Maggie Holmes collections, so maybe it’s AC / Crate Paper. 
3. What do you want to learn? 
• When it comes to scrapbooking, I want to learn more about stamping. I know the basics, but I’m pretty bad at using stamps on my layouts… 
4. Where you are after 10 years? 
• Lately I’ve been trying to learn to live in the moment. So I’m not going to try to guess where I will be: I will see where life gets me and be happy. 
5. Your favorite craft goods? 
• Die-cuts/ephemera and enamel dots
6. What is your dream? 
• To be happy and to be able to enjoy the things that are happening right now. 
7. To whom would you give 10 million dollars if you had to? 
• In Finland there is one main hospital that is just for children. The premises are in a real bad shape and there is now a foundation that is building a new hospital that will be one of the most modern children’s hospitals in the world. That’s a charity cause that I would give my 10 million. 
8. What makes you happy? 
• Right now spring, sun, upcoming vacation, my new job and last but not least my dear husband. 
9. You wake up in the middle of the night, what is your first thought? 
• Probably I have some killer idea on my mind! It might be work related or an idea for a scrapbooking layout. 
10. What you are working on right now? 
• Writing and scheduling blog posts 
11. What you are waiting? 
• Saturday when I can show you my first ever ”start to finish” scrapbooking video :) 
12. Where would you like to travel? 
• New York and Mexico, where I will be going soon! 
13. What is your favorite technique in crafting? 
• This is a hard one as I’m not sure how much technique my scrapbooking involves. Paper layering? 
14. What are you proud of? 
• I’m proud about the things I made to the new Paperilla Magazine that will be published quite soon. 
15. Describe yourself with three words? 
• Positive, loyal and a bit stubborn. 
16. Best thing in your blog? 
• I would say my readers. I love it when they are commenting on my posts and that feedback and encouragement that is sent means so much to me 
17. What is your favorite TV soap? 
• I don’t really watch any TV soaps. I love comedies, like Modern Family, The Big Bang theory, How I met your mother (not the last season), 30 Rock and of course all-time favorite Friends. 
18. Where would you travel to, if you had an open end budget? 
• Easy question, back to Hawaii. 
19. What was your favorite thing to do as a child?
• I started to play violin when I was three and played for 18 years, so I probably liked it :) 
20. Why do you scrap? 
• I think there are two reasons. One: it’s a hobby for me and I love to do something with my hands. Scrapbooking is great way to relax and do something completely different. Two: it’s a way to preserve memories. I love that I can now put memories on paper together with photos. I think scrapbooking has also taught me to see all the little important things that happen every day.

Summer memories

Tässä CSI-haastessa olen jo kesätunnelmissa! Ehkä jo ihmettelet tuota sivun otsikkoa? Olimme viime kesänä matkalla sukujuhliin ja halusimme pysähtyä matkalla johonkin. Katselimme sitten karttaa ja totesimme, että Helvetinjärven luonnonpuisto on siinä matkan varrella ja meistä paikan nimi kuulosti niin hauskalta, että se valikoitui pysähtymispaikaksemme. Paikka oli niin tyypillinen suomalainen luonnonpuisto kun vaan voi olla: metsäpolkuja, mäntyjä ja järvi. Löysimme mukavan hiekkarannan, johon olikin kokoontunut perheitä viettämään aurinkoista päivää. Helvetinjärvi  paikannimenä oli jo hauska, mutta vieläkin hauskempi oli yhden sikäläisen luontopolun/-reitin nimi: Helvetistä itään!

Summer was already on my mind when I made this layout for CSI. At this point I must explain a bit what the name of this layout means. The direct translation of the title is "from Hell to East". Last summer we were travelling in Finland and we wanted to stop somewhere on our way to a family gathering. We looked at the map and noticed that there was a place called "Helvetinjärven luonnonpuisto" (Translation: Hell's lake national park). We thought that the name was so funny that we needed to go there. This national park had the most typical Finnish landscape that there is: forest, lake, pine trees etc. There was a nice beach by the lake and there were families enjoying the sunny day. Even though the name of the natural park was funny enough, we though that even funnier was the name of one of the hike paths: From Hell to East!

Mitä sitten tulee tähän skräppisivuun, halusin hyödyntää 6x6-paperilehtiöitäni. Niinpä leikkelin papereista suikaleita. Jotta paperit eivät olisi liian räikeitä, vaimensin värejä hieman gessolla. Testimony -kohdasta valitsin kohdan, jossa tarinoinnille piti kehittää läpinäkyvä tasku. Minulla oli pöydälläni Project Life -sivusta leikattu tasku, jonka ompelinkin kiinni sivuuni ja sujautin tarinoinnin sen sisään.

For this layout I wanted to use my 6x6 paper pads. I added strips of paper to the top and toned down the colors a bit with gesso. From the testimony part I chose to create a transparent pocket to hold my journaling. I had a piece of Project Life page protector on my desk and I just sewed that to my layout and slipped my journaling card there.

Mukavaa lauantaita! Tämän viikon CSI:lle tekemäni skräppisivu oli melkoinen taistelu. Haasteen värit olivat aika vaikeat minulle ja sivun tekeminen ei meinannut luonnistua oikein millään. Tuo taustapaperin valinta oli todella vaikeaa ja ehkä huomaatkin, että sivussa on kolme isoa paperia päällekkäin, sillä lisäilin taustaan papereita vain päällekkäin niin kauan kunnes olin tyytyväinen.

Happy Satuday! This layout that I created for CSI was a real challenge for me. The colors were already challenging and the layout just didn't come together. Choosing the backgrond was the trickiest part and you can see that there is three 12x12 papers on top of each other as I just kept adding the papers until I was happy with the outcome.

Pitkästä aikaa tein sivun, joka toimii muistutuksena itselleni. Työni muuttui tuossa huhtikuu alussa ja uusia haasteita riittää sen saralla. Olemalla oma itseni ja luottamalla osaamiseeni selviydyn uusista haasteista varmasti.

I wanted to create this layout as a reminder to myself. Starting from the beginning of April I started on a new job (same company still) and the new job is really challenging. I just wanted to remind me to trust my abilities and be myself. By doing that I'm sure I will succeed.

Light and bright layout

Tällä kertaa minulla on näyttää teille skräppisivu, jossa on kaksi erityisen ihanaa tyyppiä! Sivussa on minun lisäkseni kaksi serkkuani, jotka ovat todella rakkaita minulle. Aivan kuin siskoja.

Today I have a very special layout to show you. In the pictures you can see me and two of my cousins who are really dear to me. Just like sisters.

Tämä sivu on tehty uusimpaan CSI-haasteeseen, jossa oli luonnos mukana. Innostuin käyttämään luonnoksen mukaisesti neljää valokuvaa, joka on aika harvinaista minulle. Lopputulos kuitenkin toimii ja sivusta tuli ihanan valoisa ja raikas. Haasteen värit olivat aivan kuin minulle tehdyt! Tuo väripaletti antoi niin paljon mahdollisuuksia, mutta minä päätin mennä käyttäen pääasiassa noita pastellin vihreän sävyjä. Sivun tarinointi on tällä kertaa piilossa ja se löytyy tuolta viimeisen kuvan alta "tarina…" lapusta.

This layout was made for CSI challenge that was published last night. This time the challenge included a sketch and I was inspired to use 4 pictures as it was on the sketch. Normally I just use one or max two pictures but I really like the outcome here! I just love the color palette this week: it gave so many possibilities! I decided to make a really bright anf light layout using the white background and that minty green! Journaling is hidden this time under the last picture (the tag with "tarina.." which means "story…").
