Around here

Hey stranger, long time no see! This blog has been neglected for many months now but I'm happy to report that I'm back in business. Not like I have stopped scrapbooking during the time, I just haven't had time to blog. During the last couple of months I have been really busy with our house project. We have now moved in and we are so happy!

From now on I have more time to scrapbook and the best part is that I can do it in my brand new craft room! I shared the first peek in to my new studio at Citrus Twist Kits blog yesterday. I started in their Design Team in July and will continue in their 2017 Design Team too which is really exciting!

Back to my new craft room! I had the wonderful opportunity to design my own studio from scratch. Our house is completely new so I was able to create my dream craft room.

Even though I have been involved in the designing of our house from the first moment, there were some limitations and things that needed to fit in the room. The blueprint of the room was set but I was able to have double French doors to the room and make sure that the room is good size (approximately 142 square feet). This room also has a high slanted ceiling that makes the room feel big and airy.

In this post I want to walk you through the main elements of my scrap room and the things I considered while designing the room. The room is not completely ready yet and it is missing some finishing touches like curtains but the main elements are in place already.

While designing the room I needed to consider the fact that the room is right next our living room so the room needs to look pretty while also being functional.

As this room is also used as my office I needed to fit a big desk in the room, accommodating two work stations: work computer, home computer and of course room for scrapbooking. I played around with the idea of having separate desks on different sides of the room but finally I landed on having one big desk on one side of the room. The table is made of two parts: one part is fixed and one has electronic legs (from IKEA) so that the height of the table can be adjusted. Our home computer stays on the adjustable desk as my husband sometimes likes to work while standing up.

One big part of the room design is storage. I wanted to have a lot of cabinets and drawers that I could store all my scrapbooking products in. There are now three main storages areas in the room. Above the table I have 10 cabinets and half of them have a glass door. This helps making the cabinets feel lighter. The second storage area is under the window. This built-in bench with drawers is actually an Ikea hack my husband made. It’s still waiting for some cushions, but I’m already quite excited, I think the bench is really pretty! The last storage area in my studio is my trusty Kallax where I store for example all my papers.

As I live in Finland I needed to consider the lightning of the room. We have a long and dark winter here which means that there are months in the middle of winter when we get only limited hours of daylight. A good lighting in a room is a must! All the lights in the room are LED lights and the color of the light is white (4000 K). This means that the light will not have a yellowish tint. I have several light sources in the room. All the lights are dimmable so I can balance how much of light I have in the room.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my new craft room. Let me know if you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them! In the next couple of weeks I will catch up here on my blog and share projects I have made during the summer. I hope I'll see you around!

Traveler's notebook class with Citrus Twist Kits!

I'm honored to be one of the class contributors in Citrus Twist Kits newest online class! This class is all about memory keeping is a traveler's notebook which has been my favorite kind of memory keeping in the last couple of months. This class is packed with beautiful projects and helpful tips! The class is now available in Citrus Twist Kits shop, I hope to see you in class!

Subway Tile - A traveler's notebook spread

Here's my June project for Pinkfresh Studio! I created a traveler's notebook spread with Felicity and Life Noted collections. These collections go so well together! I kept the color palette light by keeping the main color white. The little pops of color create nice interest to the spread.

For this spread I placed the title and journaling vertically. This brings a nice detail and variation to the spread. I also added phrase stickers below the picture as additional journaling.

Here & Now - a traveler's notebook spread with Freckled Fawn's Embellishment kit

Here's a spread from my traveler's notebook that I created with Freckled Fawn's April embellishment kit that I got from Scrapbook Werkstatt. I love this form of documenting!

Summer memory - a layout with SBW June Kit

It's been a gorgeous summer week here in Finland! Sunshine and warm weather, loving it! Here's a layout about a summer memory from last year. I created this layout with Scrapbook Werkstatt's June kit.

Rainbow of colors - A layout with Scrapbook Werkstatt's June Kit

Scrapbook Werkstatt's June kit is now available! Here is my first layout with the kit. I'm pretty sure that a layout can't be more simple than this! One strip of pattern paper, acetate words stapled to white cardstock, picture and some mist splatters. When I saw that rainbow colored paper from the kit I knew I had to create a layout with it together with Pinkfresh Studio acetate words. The words repeat the colors from the paper and create a cool rainbow of colors!

Daydream - A layout and a sketch for Scrapidées

This week I'm a guest at Scrapidées blog! Scrapidées is a popular French blog that shares layouts together with a sketch every week. I was honored to be asked to create a sketch and a layout for them! This is actually the first sketch that I made myself and I had fun making it! If you are inspired by the sketch, please let me know in the comments!

Real Story - a traveler's notebook spread

Here is another spread from my traveler’s notebook. I have made my own traveler’s notebook inserts and I use one of these notebooks for memory keeping. This notebook is currently one of my favorite ways to document memories: simple, easy and quick! For this spread I have used Pinkfresh Studio products.

This is a typical spread from my notebook. The photo and journaling are the most important things there and the embellishments and papers support them. I loved using the washi tape strips as they bring some additional journaling to the spread.

You can do it - A layout with SBW May Kit

Here's another layout I created with Scrapbook Werkstatt's May kit. This spring has been full of challenging projects at work and at home. I created this layout as a motivational piece for myself. When you stay focused you can do what ever you want!

Minibook: Ongoing Story

Here is a minibook I made with Pinkfresh Studio's Felicity and Life Noted collections. Both of these collections have a unique look but still they go together so well!

For this minibook I used the 3x4 cards from Life Noted as my base. I added pages to the mini book also by cutting cards from the Life Noted 6x6 paper pad. This mini book is photo heavy so I kept the embellishments to a minimum.

To see the inside pages check out this quick video where I flip through the mini book.

Inspire - a layout with pretty colors

This is my third layout that I created with Scrapbook Werkstatt's May kit. For this layout I used quite a lot of embellishments from Pink Paislee's C'est la Vie collection. I just love the look of that collection, it's so fresh!

Here's the layout I created. This was a perfect opportunity to use the Bloom collection from Maggie Holmes. I went a bit crazy with the flowers!

I wanted to add white space to the layout to bring balance to the layout. I placed al the elements to the left side of the layout and kept the rest really simple.

Remember to leave a comment to each blog post of the hop to maximize your possibilities to win! Now, head over to Diana's blog to continue the blog hop!

Hello from the kitchen - a layout with SBW May kit

Here's another layout I created with Scrapbook Werkstatt's May kit. I think this layout is one of my favorites for a long time for two reasons. One, the photo is taken at our new house and we are at the place where the kitchen will be. I think the expressions on our faces tell it all, we are so happy. Second, this layout came together so easily and I think it looks different compared to the layouts I have done lately. I really love the look of this layout, happy and bright!
